Parrot DNA Sexing

Individual DNA sexing for some parrot species.

Rafter J’s offers parrot DNA sexing to help owners keep a sex identification result with each bird’s records. Often called a parrot DNA gender test, this service focuses on identifying the sex of the bird associated with the submitted sample.

Confirm your parrot species first

We accept some parrot species. Contact the lab with your bird’s species before ordering or collecting a sample so we can confirm current test availability and the correct submission instructions. A picture on this page does not mean that every parrot species is accepted.

Keep your bird’s name, band number, or another unique identifier consistent across the sample label and your own records. For multiple parrots, prepare a separate labeled bag for every bird.

What this test is for

Parrot testing is part of our avian DNA sexing services. Bird DNA sex testing provides a sex identification result; it does not include disease screening, parentage testing, or a complete genetic profile. Ask us about any separate testing needs before placing an order.

Sample collection and labeling

After the lab confirms your species and requirements, review our sample collection guide, including the photo and videos. Our avian sexing service uses blood samples; follow the instructions confirmed for your bird rather than choosing a collection method based only on a photograph.

Number and label each bag before collection. Keep every bird’s sample separate, avoid touching the collection surface, and follow the instructions for drying and packaging. Contact the lab if the label is unclear or you are unsure whether a sample is suitable.

How to order and receive results

  1. Confirm that the required service is available for your bird. Check the existing ordering page for current options and prices. If the test is not listed, contact the lab before paying for a different test.
  2. Complete your order using the existing checkout, then collect and label samples according to the instructions confirmed for that service.
  3. Mail the samples using the laboratory’s current shipping instructions.
  4. View your results in the customer portal. You will receive an email when the lab sends your results notification; check your spam folder if needed.

Ask the lab about this test or read our laboratory terms and sample requirements.
